Pohon evolusi hominidae diawali dengan pemisahan Pongo lalu kemudian di ikuti pemisahan gorilla. Pan mengikuti dan disusul dengan Ardipithecus, sehingga pada akhirnya pohon evolusi hominidae berpuncak pada dua cabang utama,
